All about logo stings

An element often missing when we make a video for clients is that they can’t provide us with a logo sting that they’re already using as a part of their brand design language. So, for a small fee, we make one for them. This is a file that can be incorporated into the brand design toolbox for all videos that we, or other contractors you work with, can use to brand your videos.

They can also be used in other types of projects like presentations, websites, and promotional materials.

What is a logo sting?

A logo sting, also known as a logo reveal or logo animation, is a short and dynamic sequence that showcases a company's logo or brand identity in a visually appealing and engaging way.

Logo stings are designed to capture the viewer's attention and create a lasting impression for the brand. They often incorporate motion graphics, special effects, sound effects, and music to enhance the visual impact and convey the brand's personality and message effectively.

Key elements commonly found in logo stings

  1. Logo Animation: The main focus of a logo sting is to animate the company's logo. The animation can range from simple transformations like fades and rotations to complex movements, morphing, or 3D effects. The goal is to bring the logo to life and make it visually captivating. We like to make the animation of a logo tell a story that’s in line with the brand and give the logo a personality.

  2. Sound Design: I bet if I say “Netflix” you’ll hear their “ba-dum”. Sound effects and music are integral components of logo stings and they have a name: Sonic IDs. Think of them like audio logos. This episode of NPR’s Planet Money is less than 20 minutes and is an excellent introduction to Sonic IDs.

  3. Duration: Logo stings need to be short and concise. Wheelhaus stings tend to be around 3-4 seconds. Brevity ensures that the animation doesn't overstay its welcome and delivers the intended impact quickly.

Logo stings serve multiple purposes

  1. Branding: Logo stings reinforce brand recognition by prominently displaying the logo and associated brand elements. They help establish a visual identity and make the brand memorable.

  2. Introductions: Logo stings are commonly used to introduce videos, presentations, or other media content. They create a professional and polished opening, setting the tone for the subsequent material.

  3. Transitions: Logo stings can be employed as transitions between different sections or scenes in a video or presentation. They provide visual continuity and make the transitions more engaging and seamless. For presentations, it might help to have a second version created with transitions in mind.

Logo stings can be created by professional designers and animators using specialized software like Adobe After Effects, Blender, or other animation tools. Alternatively, there are pre-made templates available that allow customization, making it accessible to individuals or businesses without extensive animation expertise.

Overall, logo stings are effective visual tools that elevate a brand's presence and make a lasting impact on viewers.
